Monica Carpendale, BFA, DVATI, RCAT, HLM, BCATR, founder and academic dean of the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute, is an art therapist, educator, supervisor, author and filmmaker. She has written 2 books: Essence and Praxis in the Art Therapy Studio (2009) and A Traveler’s Guide to Art Therapy Supervision (2011).

Richard Campbell, DKATI
Mr. Campbell was born April 21st, 1951, and is of North American Indigenous decent. A practicing Art Therapist and Drug and Alcohol clinician in his Tribal Nation. Richard has developed an approach he called the "Kid Glove" approach. By combining his Art Therapy Approach/Practice with The North American Indian Medicine Wheel ways of living and healing. Richard is recognized as a former Chief of his people, an Elder Knowledge Keeper and North American Medicine Wheel Builder and North American Indian Medicine Wheel Teacher.


This workshop introduces teachings of the medicine wheel and principles of indigenous research methodologies with a relational approach to art therapy. Concepts of respect, reciprocity, relationality, cultural humility, cultural safety, two-eyed seeing and first voice will be discussed along with art therapy activities exploring totem animals and nature metaphors.
