Nancy Gerber, PhD, ATR-BC
Nancy Gerber, Ph.D, ATR-BC,is a Clinical Associate Professor at Drexel University where authored and formerly directed the Ph.D Program in Creative Arts Therapies. She is also a visiting scholar at Florida State University Dr. Gerber has published and presented nationally and internationally on art therapy assessment, doctoral education, mixed methods, and arts based research. Dr. Gerber was the first recipient of the Distinguished Educator Award from the AATA.
David Gussak, PhD, ATR-BC
David Gussak, PhD, ATR-BC is Professor for the Florida State University art therapy program. Dave has published and presented extensively on art therapy and corrections. He authored "Art on Trial" and "Art and Art Therapy with the Imprisoned: Re-Creating Identity" and co-edited the "Wiley Handbook of Art Therapy".
Lynn Kapitan, PhD, ATR-BC, HLM
Lynn Kapitan, PhD, ATR-BC, Professor and Director of the Professional Doctorate in Art Therapy at Mount Mary University. She is a former Editor of Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, Past President of AATA, and a cross-cultural research consultant with international nongovernmental organizations, primarily in Latin America. She is the author of Introduction to Art Therapy Research.
Girija Kaimal, EdD, MA, ATR-BC
Dr. Girija Kaimal (EdD, MA, ATR-BC) is Assistant Professor in the doctoral program in Creative Arts therapies at Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions. She has Bachelor's degree in design from the National Institute of Design in India; Masters degree in art therapy from Drexel University; and; her doctorate is in human development and psychology from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. She also serves as the Chair of the AATA Research Committee and is an Assessment Fellow for Drexel University.
Jennifer La Civita, PsyD, MA, ATR-BC
Dr. Jennifer La Civita is the Chairperson of the Master of Arts in Counseling: Art Therapy Department and the PhD in Art Therapy Department at Adler University in Chicago. She is an Associate Professor, has a private practice, La Civita Healthcare, and is an administrative and educational consultant for schools and community health centers in Chicago and the suburbs. She is dedicated to urban revitalization through the arts and arts therapies and embraces an Adlerian philosophy as an agent of positive change.
The education of scholars at the doctoral level to generate research for the advancement of our field has become a new priority. We discuss current trends, changing circumstances, challenges and benefits of doctoral education relative to the growth and viability our field.
