Carrie Cottone
Carrie Cottone is a board certified and registered art therapist. She received her Master’s degree from Drexel University’s Creative Arts in Therapy Program in 2008. While living in Los Angeles, California, Carrie developed art therapy programs at two major children’s hospitals in California, Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach and UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital. She focused her efforts in the pediatric hematology/oncology patient population. Currently, she is a second year PhD student at Drexel University’s Creative Arts Therapies Program. She also works part-time at Child and Family Art Therapy Center as well as at Abramson Senior Care.
This session will describe how the therapeutic space and process of creativity help understand the psychosomatic and psychosocial stressors of the hospitalized child. The result serves as an empathetic bridge from patient to non-patient. A theory will be presented and supported by a case study.
