Paige Asawa, PhD, ATR-BC, LMFT
Paige Asawa, Ph.D, ATR-BC, LMFT is an artist, art therapist, art therapy educator and mentor who has been engaged in the art therapy community for over 25 years. After building a private practice for seven years, she became and art therapy educator in 1998 teaching trauma theory and treatment, family art therapy, research methods and many other classes at LMU. Dr. Asawa is currently a Co-founder and Program Director for the Institute for Arts in Medicine [IAM] Keck School of Medicine of USC where she is developing new arts-based programs in the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and hospital system. Dr. Asawa is actively engaged in building awareness of art therapy both nationally and internationally by publishing, providing art therapy intensives, consultations, in-services, training and presentations. She has served as Convenor of the Coalition of Art Therapy Educators (CATE) and past Treasurer on the Board of Directors of the American Art Therapy Association.

Martha Haeseler, MA, ATR-BC
Martha Haeseler, ATR-BC, art therapist, educator, and fiber artist, retired director of an outpatient VA psychiatry program, has published and presented widely in the areas of art therapy with adolescents, groups and veterans; eating disorders; psychosis; ethics; trauma; cultural considerations, positive psychology, military culture, healing gardens, and outsider art.

Gwendolyn Short, MA, ATR-BC, LCPAT
Gwendolyn Short, MA, ATR-BC, LCPAT, received her master’s degree in art therapy from The George Washington University, in her home town of Washington D.C. Her membership in AATA, since 1976, includes attendance at every conference, dedicated service on many committees, and also 8 years on ATCB. She has served on AATA’s Honors Committees, Governmental Affairs, and Multicultural Committees and reviewed AATA business minutes. On the ATCB, she served as the Registration Standards Chair, Director and Liaison to the Standards Committee, reviewed the final draft of the first certification exam, and read the first exam on tape for a special needs candidate. Gwen has most recently served as the Chair of the Membership Committee and is an active participant on the Multicultural Committee.

P. Gussie Klorer, PhD, HLM, ATR-BC, LCSW, LCPC
P. Gussie Klorer, PhD, HLM, ATR-BC, LCSW, LCPC, is an Emeritus Professor in the Graduate Art Therapy Counseling program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She maintains a private practice in art therapy, specializing in work with children with severe trauma and attachment issues.

Randy Vick, Professor
Randy M. Vick, MS, ATR-BC, LCPC, HLM is a Professor in the Art Therapy department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His research and presentation interests include the areas of outsider art, disability studios, and men in art therapy.


A panel of the American Art Therapy Association's Distinguished Clinician Award recipients will speak about a case in their career that was particularly life changing. Each presenter will share how this one-case example had significant implications in their careers and in the life of the client involved. Attendees will have take-home strategies to apply to their own practice, work, and professional development.
