Dr. Unnur Ottarsdottir ATR, has practised art therapy in various institutions and in her private practice for over 25 years. She teaches art therapy at the Iceland University of the Arts and in other institutions in Iceland and internationally. Unnur has written chapters and articles which have been published internationally.


Quantitative and qualitative research findings showed that ‘Memory Drawing’ is effective in facilitating long-term memory of words and for processing emotional material relating to stress and/or trauma. Art therapy theories and methods are important in order to explain and understand the function and effectiveness of drawing for remembering.
