Clara Keane, MA
Clara Keane is Coordinator of Communications and Policy for the American Art Therapy Association. Her communications responsibilities include managing our weekly e-briefing Art Therapy Today and supporting other content platforms such as website, social media pages, and presentations. She additionally coordinates support for our chapter state advocacy efforts and acts as a liaison between the AATA and our partners in the wider mental health and arts communities.

Paige Scheinberg, MS, ATR-BC
Paige Scheinberg, MS, ATR-BC, lives and works in Memphis, TN. Through her company, SHINE ON Consulting, Paige offers art therapy services, as well as arts-based workshops and trainings for professional and creativity development, wellness, and self-care. Her clients include West Cancer Center and Brooks Museum. Paige is also the co-chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee of TATA.

Catherine Harris, MA, ATR-BC
Catherine graduated with her Master of Art Therapy degree from the George Washington University in 2007. A resident of Nashville, TN, Catherine works for TriStar Centennial Medical Center and focuses much of her practice on Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy techniques and the Acceptance and Commitment or ACT philosophy.

Ellie Nicol, Art Therapist
Ellie Seibel-Nicol, M.A., ATR-BC is a Clinical Art Therapist with over 30 years serving children, adolescents and adults in a variety of settings. She is certified in both Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EFT Tapping for Trauma. Ellie is a past president of the Connecticut Art Therapy Association (CATA) and a former Director on the Board of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA). Her work with traumatized children from Sandy Hook has been published in Creative Interventions for Traumatized Children .


This session will provide an overview of AATA legislative priorities, accomplishments, challenges, and strategies, and then engage attendees on interactive activities focused on building a strong art therapy legislative campaign in their respective states. A panel of art therapists will provide concrete examples from licensure campaigns from the past year in Connecticut, where a license was recently enacted, and in Tennessee.
