Katherine Banks, MA, ATR-BC, LCAT
I am a Registered, Board Certified, Licensed Art Therapist in New York State, with over 10 years practicing art therapy in an adult inpatient Psychiatric/Behavioral Health hospital setting. My work experience also includes art therapy on forensic, child and adolescent psychiatric and chemical dependency units. My focus is on helping clients experience and build wellbeing through a variety of creative and expressive modalities that uniquely increase self-awareness, positive emotions and coping skills. My practice of art therapy incorporates a personalized, collaborative, humanistic, existential, mindful self-compassion based and psychodynamic approach that facilitates supportive guidance toward personal growth and resiliency.
Taking steps to make self-care a priority mitigates the impact of compassion fatigue. Mindfulness increases self-awareness, and artistic expression gives form to our inner experiences. Self-compassion allows us to take good care of ourselves, and is the recognition of loving-kindness, which is something everyone needs and deserves.
