Cathy Moon is a Professor in the Art Therapy Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Author of Studio Art Therapy and editor of Materials and Media in Art Therapy, she is currently co-facilitating a free community art studio in Chicago and a paraprofessional therapeutic arts training program in East Africa.
This presentation examines emotional labor as embodied, gendered, and racialized. Topics addressed include the demands of emotional labor within work environments shaped by neoliberalism; the challenge of developing meaningful self- and communal-care practices; and the insights offered by activists working at the intersection of social change and healing justice.
