Barbara Fish, PhD, ATR-BC, ATCS, LCPC, is on the faculty of St. Mary of the Woods College and Mt Mary University, specializing in supervision. Her research focuses on response art in art therapy, art-based supervision, and art-based research. She authored Art-based Supervision: Cultivating Therapeutic Insight Through Imagery. (Routledge, 2017).
Art therapists have made images to help them manage and understand their work since the beginning of the field. This overview of the history of response art includes its origin in clinical work, current uses in art-based supervision, and art-based research. Consideration is also given to its future use.
